In a master thesis at TU Darmstadt qTESLA has been identified as a promising candidate to replace conventional digital signature schemes in embedded systems. The thesis evaluated qTesla and other post-quantum signature schemes at Intel Deutschland GmbH with regard to signature and public key size, signature verification time, and memory consumption, which are critical for typical embedded platform security use cases like secure boot, and implemented qTESLA on an ARM Cortex R5F based development board with similar computational capabilities as cellular modem platforms.
qTESLA is a family of post-quantum signature schemes based on the hardness of the decisional Ring Learning With Errors (R-LWE) problem. qTESLA was developed at TU Darmstadt together with several partners and recently reached the secound round in the Post Quantum Standardization Competition by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
